Glenn Hay

President

Graduated Llb from UTAS in 1974 and admitted as barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 1976 following a post graduate diploma in legal studies.

Glenn practised law in Hobart mostly in litigation areas especially Family Law specialising in the separate representation of children. In 1999 he became a Band 2 Judicial Registrar of the Family Court of Australia circuiting to the Melbourne Court and all major centres in Tasmania.
In 2001 he became the Director of the UTAS post-graduate legal practice course as well as joining the Independent Bar in Tasmania practising out of Malthouse Chambers.

In 2005 Glenn received a Commission from the Governor of Tasmania as a Magistrate and retired from that position in July 2021, although he has returned as a temporary Magistrate on occasions since that time.

Apart from the general duties as a Magistrate, Glenn also sat in specialised courts such as the Court Mandated Drug Court, Forensic Mental Health Court, Youth Court and Family Violence Court, all of which promoted the principle of where possible therapeutically treating offenders for their issues rather than by sentencing to imprisonment, at least in the first instance.

Glenn has been involved in the boards/governing committees of numerous community and sporting organisations in Tasmania as well as the President of Relationships Australia Inc.
